VIA at the ABIT Hardware Festival

ABIT Hardware Festival
London, England - September 3, 2004

Following on from the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS), VIA continued the London leg of its 2004 Geared for Gaming global tour, participating in the ABIT Hardware Festival in Leicester Square, London, on September 3rd 2004.

Having taken on, and humiliated, all challengers at the VIA booth during ECTS, three times CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) Gaming World Champion Jonathan ‘Fatal1ty' Wendell once again took on challengers in one-on-one Doom 3 deathmatches, with any successful challengers walking away with a cool 1,000 pounds prize money. In between Fatal1ty Shootout sessions, VIA hosted a PC Forum on the Leicester Square main stage, entertaining and educating the central London crowd with a frenetic PC Speed Building Contest, followed by an informative Overclocking Clinic.

Over at the VIA tent, passers by could experience a Hi-Def gaming experience on K8T800 Pro chipset based gaming PCs.

The ultra compact and feature packed VIA EPIA Mini-ITX motherboards proved to be the ideal platform for the VIA sponsored PC Speed Building Competition. With so many components included on the motherboard itself, the Speed Building Competition showed the assembled crowd just how easy it is to put together a Mini-ITX based system. Here, Tim Brown of VIA invites the contestants in the PC Speed Building Contest to come to the stage and take their positions.

The contestants, Jo of www.HEXUS.net and Spodey of www.spodesabode.com waste no time and dive straight into assembling their PCs as the starting whistle sounds. Both Jo and Spodey were ably assisted by their assistants, the lovely Joanne and Samantha. The competition reaches its climax. Spodey appears to be almost home as he attaches the case lid, while Jo seems to have some cabling issues and has to consult the user’s manual.

VIA’s Tim Brown and Wil Harris of bit-tech.net chair the VIA sponsored Overclocking Clinic. A team of overclocking experts from popular UK PC Enthusiast websites www.HEXUS.net and www.bit-tech.net get to work on a K8T800 Pro chipset based gaming system provided by bespoke PC retailer Savrow.

Tim and Wil answer overclocking related questions from the audience. Thanks to the enhanced overclocking options of the K8T800 Pro chipset, just a few minutes of tweaking work delivers a clear jump CPU clock speed and system performance.

Fatal1ty is introduced to the crowd by the MC. Predictably, Fatal1ty once again gave a flawless performance and a master class in how to grind your opponent into the ground. Although some challengers put up a very credible fight, the £1,000 prize money went unclaimed again.
